First Grade at Grand Ridge is comprised of many components including:

*Handwriting: Handwriting without Tears
*Science: Stars and Moon, Magnets/ Motion, Habitats/Collecting and Examining Life
*Social Studies: Our Families, Our World, Our Wants and Needs
*Health and Fitness lessons
*Computer Lab: weekly lessons in our lab
*Social Skills: Second Step program
*Art: monthly lessons with volunteer docent
*PE, Music, Library classes: weekly
*Reading Buddies with intermediate class: weekly
Homework:
Based on a grade-level decision last year, first grade
students will not be assigned daily homework. That being
said, the children will be encouraged to READ, READ,
READ! A "take home" reading program will begin in
early October. Your child will have an opportunity to
check out books from our grade-level library. When he/
she is ready for a new book, simply have your child
return the book to school. This program is optional,
run by parent volunteers, and a lot of fun for the kids!
